Remember back in early May when we told you about certain brave SherWeb employees gearing up to shave their heads for Leucan’s Shaved Head Challenge?
Well, clean up on aisle 4 because there was a LOT of hair on the floor last week.
That’s right. Six of our employees are now bald. As in bald bald. Take a look:

And guess what? They couldn’t be more thrilled. After all, it was for a great cause: Leucan is a non-profit organization that has been enhancing the well-being, healing and recovery of children battling cancer since 1978. Leucan also supports families at each phase of the illness by providing specific and adapted services. Receiving no government funding, this Quebec-based organization relies solely on private donations obtained through various fundraising activities and initiatives throughout the year.
Leucan also works tirelessly to find a cure for pediatric cancer. Each year it invests nearly one million dollars in clinical research, and finances the Leucan Information Centre in Montreal’s Sainte-Justine Hospital.

The Shaved Head Challenge, in which brave folks agree to have their heads shaved in exchange for donations, is by far Leucan’s biggest fundraising event of the year. This was SherWeb’s second year in participating in the challenge.
During the big event, which took place on May 23, SherWeb employees and their families enjoyed a little music and a barbecue… not to mention the thrill of seeing co-workers (and one of their bosses) getting their heads shaved.

So, what’s it like to have all your hair shaved off?
Simon Langlois, Manager of our Affiliate Program found it to be quite an emotional experience:
“I felt a sense of accomplishment, vulnerability, solidarity and joy—all at the same time. Accomplishment because it was the end of our extensive fundraising campaign; vulnerability because something I took for granted disappeared right in front of my eyes, solidarity with the children who had also lost their hair… but not by choice; and joy because instead of thinking about what I was losing, I was thinking about what good my sacrifice might do. There wasn’t a single moment of regret.”
Well said indeed.
Our now smooth-pated employees were certainly the stars of the show (not to mention the butt of a few jokes). But they weren’t the only ones to get involved in the fundraising efforts: a large number of SherWeb employees got involved in a host of other Leucan-related activities like weekly brunches, bowl-a-thons, poker and billiards nights, and even a car wash.
All told, their efforts raised a total of $15,000, exceeding their goal by $5,000.
And at the end of the day, it wasn’t just Leucan that benefitted, but SherWeb too. Together, we increased our community involvement while raising money for a very worthwhile cause. And boy-oh-boy, was it ever a huge boon to the company’s team spirit and employee morale.
The “main event” may be over for another year, but Leucan’s work certainly isn’t. It gladly accepts contributions all year long. To help Leucan find a cure for Leukemia and support families with children battling Leukemia, you can make a donation here.
You can find out more about Leucan and its activities on the Leucan website.
And keep visiting our blog for more Leucan-related news because chances are that for as long as there’s a need for Leucan, SherWeb employees will be lining up to support it anyway they can.
