Anonymous, a loosely organized group of Internet hackers, have been initiating civil disobedience while maintaining anonymity since forming on the image board 4chan in 2003. Beginning in 2008 the group started taking on more collaborative, international hacktivism by initiating protests and other actions with the overarching goal of promoting Internet freedom and freedom of speech.
