Fast-forward five years, and our successful developer and consultant is still a satisfied SherWeb customer. We recently asked him why he initially chose us as his Hosted Exchange provider, how his recent cloud migration to Hosted Exchange 2013 went, and what’s kept him with us all these years. Here’s what he had to say:
Jiri Cincura is a developer and consultant, and the owner of x2develop.com. He helps companies create better products with less effort by leveraging new technologies.
Why did you decide to go with Hosted Exchange in the first place? Why not Google Apps, which was free at the time?
It was years back, at that time Exchange 2007, no Exchange 2010 or 2013, stone age. I was running my own email server (on Linux), but I was tired of keeping it up-to-date, etc. and I was looking for more than just email. Contacts, calendar, tasks, mobile device synchronization and so on. Because I’m a developer (not only, but mainly) on MS platform, I wanted Exchange because it had the best integration with Outlook… Google Apps was free at that time, but it was just email with simple contacts. New features were quickly added, but I wanted something that was proven. And I believe that at the time Google did not sync to Outlook.
What made you choose SherWeb as your Exchange provider?
I was looking around for providers and somewhere on the Internet I found a link to SherWeb, saying it’s a good service with good prices. I checked the site and the service looked good and professional. And the price was very good.
Why did you decide to migrate to Exchange 2013?
I’m a developer and consultant. I’m also a speaker at conferences, so I’m always trying to stay on the edge and learn new stuff. So why not use Exchange 2013, right? There was no pricing difference and all the services I use were available. And because of my previous experience with SherWeb, I knew it was going to be at least as good and stable as 2010.
You recently wrote an article on your blog about your positive migration experience from SherWeb’s Exchange 2010 to Exchange 2013 platform, saying that we offer “great service (uptime, antispam, performance). Do you have any specific examples of how we have met or exceeded your expectations?
Because I’m a developer I can figure out a lot of stuff myself. But sometimes things go wrong. Then I need support. Somebody to look at the logs, explain something to me, etc. SherWeb has always met my expectations. They don’t talk to me like I’m 2-years-old; they just directly address the problem. Boom. Solved.
I‘ve never lost email with SherWeb. In fact, one time support was able to recover email from antispam a month old! And speaking of antispam, since I’ve been with SherWeb, I don’t know what spam is anymore (and I still remember the previous solution from Barracuda –I’m old!). Expected maintenance is always announced weeks ahead of time (and I’ve only noticed it a few times). I’ve had unexpected downtime maybe three times, and it was always mentioned on the site. And I‘ve never had a problem with performance. Ever.
What do you think of our support and tools? FAQ website? Control Panel?
The control panel is not eye-candy-super-cool, but it works and you can do whatever you need to setup there easily. No problem for me. And it even works in Opera. The FAQ and support site is well done. No stale KBs and a lot of content. I hardly ever had to ask about standard setup, because it was always in the knowledge base.
Are there any areas where you are disappointed with SherWeb?
Are there any services or products you wished SherWeb offered?
Cheap Windows VPS. ~2GB RAM, 30-50GB HDD, 1-2CPUs for under $25/month.
I’ll see what I can do!
See why SherWeb’s Hosted Exchange plans give you more support, more expertise… and more uptime to focus on more important things…
