One little problem. Gimpshop does not work with Mac OSX. I have installed it repeatedly on OSX 10.5, 10.6.1 and 10.6.2. With each of them, it seem to install correctly, but will not run at all. When opening it, it instantly closes. Regular Gimp works fine. So get used to the interface, just as you did to the one in Photoshop.

What a great list, but I personally tend to favour SSuite Office’s free office suites. Their software also don’t need to run on Java or .NET, like so many open source office suites, so it makes their software very small and efficient.

Ditto, good list. The possibilities with Audacity are endless. Oo is great as well. I need to try some of the others. Thanks!

Great list of open source applications. I was already using GIMP, Audacity and Open Office, but never heard of Cinelerra or Scribus. I will definitely check them out! The video editing software could be especially useful to me, thanks!

As an alternative to Pro Tools, I would look at Ardour (http://www.ardour.org) is has much better feature parity with Pro Tools than Audacity does IMHO.
